Once a year we ask families and providers with whom we worked during the past year to tell us how we are doing and how we might improve. This report provides a summary of the results of this year’s survey of families who received family infant toddler early intervention and respite services. Family surveys were available in English and Spanish. Since the Families FIRST (prenatal and infant care coordination for Medicaid eligible families) program conducts their own family survey, we did not re-survey those families. The results from the Provider and Family questionnaires are summarized below.

  • “My daughter has been followed by Abrazos since she was about 8 months old, and she has come a long way since. Thanks to suggestions from the different therapists that have worked with her.”
  • “We have received speech therapy, physical therapy and a developmental therapist. All have been helpful. Now we have gone to the weekly play groups, and it has helped my children to become more social and playful with other children.”
  • “The individualized attention that each child gets, I don’t feel like we’re just another client. Everyone at Abrazos is very knowledgeable and always willing to help on one way or another.”
  • “Respite care has been very beneficial. The providers we have for our daughter are very helpful and flexible. They go out of their way to meet our needs.”

Summary and Conclusions

Overall Abrazos provides high quality services that are useful, understandable and beneficial to families. Recommendations for improvement included recruiting and retaining more personnel (respite, therapy) and increasing community awareness of our services.
